Nurses On Wheels Australia (NOW) was formed in 1959 as Rockdale Community Mobile Nursing Service.
Government funding, through the NSW Department of Health has supported the Nursing Service from the outset and continues today through State and Federal Governments.
In 1997 the NSW Department of Health negotiated with Rockdale City Council and Hurstville City Council to take responsibility for the funding of the Home Nursing Service, through the South Eastern Sydney Area Health Service.
Later in 2004 the Kogarah Council area was included in the NOW Service.
NOW is an independent, registered, and incorporated not-for-profit providing Home Nursing Services and Adult Day Programs.
NOW changed from an incorporated association known as Nurses On Wheels Inc to a company limited by guarantee known as Nurses On Wheels Australia Ltd in 1 July 2017.
